Expressing Support
As Swift made her way to the stage, she was accompanied by cinematographer Rina Yang, producer Saul Germaine, and actor Dylan O’Brien, whom she collaborated with on “All Too Well: The Short Film”. She also took the time to express her gratitude towards actress Sadie Sink, who starred in the short film alongside O’Brien, during her speech. It was a heartwarming reunion of the talented individuals involved in the project.
Swift had a sweet moment with 2022 Video Vanguard Award winner Nicki Minaj, as the rapper presented the singer with the video of the year award.
The Start of a New Music Era
While receiving her award for video of the year, Swift surprised everyone by announcing that she will be releasing a brand-new album in October. “I had sort of made up my mind that if you were going to be this generous and give us this, I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand-new album comes out October 21st,” she told fans on stage. It was a historical win for sure.
Following the event, Swift changed into a stunning Moschino dress as she proudly posed with her three awards of the night: best video, best direction, and best long form video. With these wins, Swift became the fourth most decorated artist in the history of the show. She also made history by being the first artist to win video of the year three times, having previously won for “Bad Blood” (featuring Kendrick Lamar, 2015) and “You Need to Calm Down” (2019).
The “Blank Space” singer, who is nominated for five awards tonight, looked absolutely stunning in a shimmering silver minidress, paired with chandelier crystal Christian Louboutin heels, and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. The dazzling, flapper-inspired Oscar de la Renta dress appeared to be made up of layers of shimmering silver chains, encrusted with clear jewels and pearls. The chains in the bust and skirt area were layered over a nude fabric, while the middle part of the dress exposed Swift’s bare torso.
The garment was sleeveless and had a halter neckline with no back. Long strings of jewels cascaded down the multi-talented individual’s bare back as they made their way down the red carpet at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Her earrings sparkled with pear-shaped diamonds, adding a touch of glamour to her timeless beauty look. Swift’s hair was elegantly styled in an updo with bangs parted down the middle. She wore a delicate silver cat-eye makeup and bold red lips.
Surprisingly, Swift’s longtime boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, was absent from her side on the red carpet.
Swift has been nominated for Best Video, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, and Best Long Form Video, all for her “All Too Well” short film.
Over the past few years, Swift has somewhat stepped back from the spotlight and become increasingly private about her life. Her presence at the MTV Video Music Awards tonight signifies her first award show attendance since the 2021 Grammys. Her last VMAs appearance was in 2019 when she famously opened the award show with a colorful performance of her hit “You Need to Calm Down.”
